Macular oedema secondary to RVO may also be initiated on dexamethasone as a first-line therapy based on clinician and patient choice [6, 7]; yet intravitreal anti-VEGF treatments are safer and superior to all steroids (dexamethasone implant, triamcinolone injection) and non-steroid therapies (laser photocoagulation) in optimising outcomes of visual acuity within macular oedema secondary to retinal vascular diseases [8–10]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is macular retinal edema.
