SLC11A2 (also known as NRAMP2 or DMT1) is expressed at modest levels (median 4.05–35.21 transcripts per million (TPM)) in bulk RNA-seq analyses across 53 tissues in the Genotype Tissue Expression Project (GTEx),30 and encodes an essential iron/copper transporter where common31 and rare32 variants result in microcytic anaemia with iron overload. Here, SLC11A2 is linked to Tangier disease.
