We identified a key role of TGF-β2 in fibrous cap formation and that hyperglycemia causes dysregulation of two-way crosstalk between MMP2+ synthetic and TGFB2+ contractile SMC within the fibrous cap, reducing TGF-β2 release and VSMC differentiation into contractile TGFB2+ cells and, in turn, collagen production and fibrous cap thickening. This evidence concerns the gene TGFB2 and Hyperglycemia.
