The facts that down-regulation of TRPC6 proteins was correlated with reduced firing activity of the VTA DA neurons as well as the chronic-stress-induced depression-like behaviors of mice with both sexes, and that knocking down of TRPC6 in the VTA DA neurons confers the male mice with depression-like behaviors strongly suggest a crucial role for TRPC6 in the development of chronic-stress-induced depression-like behaviors under stressful conditions like CMUS.
