IFNA1 and cancer: This inhibition of IFN protects cells against autoimmune diseases (i.e., Aicardi-Goutières disease, dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria (Wang et al. 2019), and psoriasis (Rice et al. 2012)) but hinders cancer recognition by the immune system (Rice et al. 2012) making ADAR1 a notable determinant of immunological checkpoint-blockade treatment resistance (Ishizuka et al. 2019).
