Given the role of oestrogens in men, often altered significantly in PCa either due to the disease's hormonal manipulations (such as androgen deprivation therapy) or the tumour's local synthesis of oestrogens via aromatase, ITIH2 overexpression might be an unforeseen consequence of these hormonal shifts (Ellem et al., 2004; Mostaghel et al., 2007). This evidence concerns the gene ITIH2 and posterior cortical atrophy.
