A case in point is the malaria parasite which contains six Albas mapping to four SSN clusters: Rpp25-like (containing PfAlba1 and PfAlba2), PfAlba3/PfAlba4-like, Plasmodium Alba5 and Plasmodium Alba6, the latter two clusters being genus-specific (Fig. 1B) and with the most recent diversification, that of PfAlba5, happening 530 MYA in the Cambrian period. The gene discussed is RPP25; the disease is malaria.
