More specifically, the average protein intensities of Zyxin (ZYX, a cytoskeleton protein, modulates inflammatory response in endothelial cells) and Secretoglobin family 1A member 1 (SCGB1A1, a pulmonary surfactant anti-inflammatory protein, plays an anti-inflammatory role in the lungs) were both ~8 times lower (p < 0.005) in participants with ARS compared to those without ARS (Supplementary Data 1)32,33. Here, ZYX is linked to Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome.
