Deficits in somatostatin gene production in the cingulate cortex of patients with MDD is also more pronounced in female patients (Tripp et al., 2011; Seney et al., 2015), indicating that sex differences in somatostatin interneuron function may contribute to differences in the onset and severity of neuropsychiatric disorders between biological males and females. The gene discussed is SST; the disease is major depressive disorder.
