Although statins are the most widely prescribed lipid-lowering agent, clinical trial evidence also supports PCSK9 inhibitors and ezetimibe (targeting NPC1L1) as effective for ischemic stroke prevention.39,40 Despite these data, there remain several uncertainties regarding the efficacy of LDL-lowering by stroke subtype, the comparative effectiveness of lipid-lowering drug classes for ischemic stroke risk reduction, and the impact of targeting non-LDL cholesterol fractions for stroke prevention. Here, PCSK9 is linked to ischemic stroke.
