We show that Stxs induce phosphorylation of MK2 at threonine (Thr) 334, in addition to TTP phosphorylation, which precedes inflammatory cytokine production in toxin receptor Gb3-positive macrophage-like differentiated THP-1 (D-THP-1) and HK-2 human proximal tubule epithelial cells, but not in Gb3-negative T84 human colon carcinoma cells using western blot, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). This evidence concerns the gene MAPKAPK2 and colon carcinoma.
