The polycystic kidney disease 1-like 2 (PKD1L2) gene encodes a polycystin-1-like subfamily, and the protein has ion channel segments that are highly conserved among polycystin-2 family members, suggesting that they possess cation channel functions (Li et al., 2003; Yuasa et al., 2004).
