Brainstem and striatum seem to be two biological targets forhigh-fatdiet effects.26 Specifically, in the striatum,we can find dopamine (DA) receptors 1 and 2 (DRD1 and DRD2), whichcohabitate with cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1), which is closely relatedto food regulation and eating disorders like obesity or binge-likeeating.27−29 Regarding DA, up-regulation of the DRD1 in the amygdalawas found in rats exposed to HFD throughout adolescence;30 in the brainstem, an increase in relative expressionof DRD1 and a reduced relative expression of DRD2 were detected. This evidence concerns the gene DRD2 and obesity disorder.
