Simplified structural models for the tau fibril, Figure 3c, were constructed on the basis of the structure of tau filament cores as determined by cryoEM studies of material extracted from Pick’s disease subjects.(1) However, models based on the structure of individual fibrils (either narrow Pick filament (NPF) or wide Pick filament (WPF)) failed to predict the observed intensities. The gene discussed is PICK1; the disease is frontotemporal dementia.
