ALB and liver failure: While clinically, the concentration of albumin (the major serum protein manufactured by the liver) can decline due to multiple reasons such as loss (e.g., protein-losing enteropathy or nephropathy, severe and extensive skin injury) or a failure in production, as occurs in liver failure or malnutrition, these reasons are very unlikely to explain our observations, as the goats in this study were closely monitored and did not suffer from any of the conditions mentioned above [40,41,42,43].
