Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15), a divergent member of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily [1,2,3,4], is a stress-response cytokine related to a wide variety of metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) [5] and cardiovascular (CV) disease [6], among other conditions. This evidence concerns the gene GDF15 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
