MAPT and Alzheimer disease: AD is characterized by the presence of amyloid plaques and tau tangles [1], which are taken into account in the National Institute of Aging and Alzheimer’s guidelines for patients with AD pathophysiology [3,4], including measures such as Braak neurofibrillary tangle stage [5–7], Thal phases of amyloid deposition [8] and the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer Disease (CERAD) score of neuritic amyloid plaques [9].
