Kusumoto et al.‘s retrospective analysis revealed that severe cases such as deep neck abscesses and necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTIs) could be differentiated using specific markers, with the Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis (LRINEC) score showing a cutoff value of 6 and a CRP + neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with a cutoff of 27 effectively identifying NSTI cases.
