Previous studies have shown that MPs made from PLGA can encapsulate many small molecule drugs for the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis, such as vancomycin (VA), hydroxyapatite, levofloxacin, bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) (Wang et al., 2023; Kuang et al., 2021; Zhan et al., 2024; Guo et al., 2020), etc., With the gradual degradation of PLGA skeleton, microspheres loaded with small molecule drugs can stably encapsulate and release drugs, achieving long-term sustained drug delivery. This evidence concerns the gene BMP2 and osteomyelitis.
