Indeed, our data highlight high andconsistent fluorescence readouts for Stx subtypes Stx2a, Stx2c, andStx2d known for their superior HUS association.33 Interestingly, also STEC producing Stx2b showed high fluorescencereadouts which may correlate to recent EFSA data about prolonged courseof disease for such infections.34 This evidence concerns the gene STX2 and hemolytic-uremic syndrome.
