Markers of cell cycle arrest, such as tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase-2 and IGF-binding protein 7, have been studied in the noncancer population as indicators of subtle changes in kidney function that predict the onset of AKI (AUC, 0.94 for a combination of tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase-2 and IGF-binding protein 7).76 Further studies are required to validate their predictive ability in patients with cancer. The gene discussed is IGFBP7; the disease is cancer.
