E2 inhibited the induction of circulating E-selectin, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells in postmenopausal women with coronary artery disease, which was associated with decreased cellular adhesion molecules levels (Caulin-Glaser et al., 1996; Caulin-Glaser et al., 1998). The gene discussed is VCAM1; the disease is coronary artery disorder.
