PLOD1 and colorectal cancer: Tanaka et al. (2020) found through tissue analysis of clinical cases of 599 patients with stage I or II CRC that P4HA1 is mainly expressed in the malignant epithelial components of CRC. In addition, Gawel et al. (2019) found that the combination of P4HA1 with tripartite motif-containing 28 (TRIM28), procollagen-lysine, 2-oxoglutarate 5-dioxygenase 1 (PLOD1) and carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5 (CEACAM5) proteins in the plasma of 80 newly diagnosed CRC patients and 80 healthy controls can serve as potential biomarkers for early diagnosis of colorectal cancer.
