A significant increase of CD163+ hMDM and decrease of CD36+ hMDM was also noticed after infection with DNaseI-treated DNA-supplemented 1457-M10 sessile cultures (40.37 ± 1.94% CD163+ cells), indicating that purified S. epidermidis DNA has a general effect on the inflammatory phenotype of hMDM, however, the proportion of CD163+ hMDM induced by S. epidermidis 1457-M10 supplemented with eDNA was still significantly lower compared to the infection with wild-type 1457 (73,0 ± 4,27% CD163+ cells) (Fig. 5B). The gene discussed is CD163; the disease is infection.
