CDKN2B-AS1 is a non-coding gene that produces a functional RNA that interacts with polycomb repressive complexes (PRCs) that lead to the epigenetic silencing of genes within the CDKN2B-CDKN2A gene cluster [22]; this CDKN2B-AS1 variant may indirectly affect the silencing of type 2 diabetes mellitus-associated genes in the CDKN2B-CDKN2A cluster possibly resulting in the lower gene expression levels of CDKN2B-AS1 when the risk variant rs2383208 with GG genotype is present [23]. Here, PTGDR is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
