Genetic testing for disease-causing germline (constitutional) pathogenic variants (e.g., phosphatase and tensin homolog [PTEN], DICER1, succinate dehydrogenase [SDHx], TP53) should be considered in the workup of select patients with diagnosed follicular cell-derived thyroid carcinoma, such as those with unique histomorphological and immunohistochemical features that may indicate inherited disease, or patients with hereditary cancer syndromes. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and Inherited cancer-predisposing syndrome.
