It was observed that ectopic induction of major driver oncogenes including RAS, BRAF or RET/PTC resulted in elevated concentrations of acetylated histones in thyroid cell lines, which is in contrast with the events that take place in undifferentiated and advanced tumours where acetylation decreases expressions of a range of thyroid differentiation genes including NKX2.1 (NK2 Homeobox 1), TPO (thyroid peroxidase), TG (Thyroglobulin), and SLC5A5 (solute carrier family 5 member 5) (37). The gene discussed is NKX2-1; the disease is neoplasm.
