Immunohistochemical analysis of brain tissues exhibited a marked reduction of occludin positive staining in HE group by about 79.2% (P < 0.0001) as compared to normal group, while treatment with diacerein 50 mg/kg revealed a significant increase in occludin expression in brain in comparison with HE group (P < 0.0001) (Fig. 7C and D), F (2, 15) = 39.1, P < 0.0001. The gene discussed is OCLN; the disease is hereditary elliptocytosis.
