CRP and alkaline phosphatase measurement: Despite certain limitations, the imaging modality developed by Balthazar, which is used to evaluate pancreatic and peripancreatic inflammation and pancreatic necrosis, also plays an important role in determining the cause, diagnosis, staging, and complications of AP.3 There has also been shown to be a significant correlation between the levels of parameters such as glucose, creatinine, pancreatic enzymes, calcium, proinflammatory cytokines and C-reactive protein (CRP) and the severity of AP.4-6
