Our patient's renal biopsy revealed features suggestive of both HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN) and MPGN, besides the presence of significant interstitial plasma cells, most probably attributed to concomitant other viral infections, such as hepatitis B. Also, the presence of a prominent CD8+ T-lymphocyte infiltrate pointed towards DILS, a rare complication of HIV, generally in those without HAART. Here, CD8A is linked to primary membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis.
