A previous study reported that chronic sleep loss leads to greater amyloid plaque deposition in the APP/PS1 mouse model.16 Similarly, one night of sleep deprivation increased Aβ accumulation in the hippocampus of healthy subjects.15 An elevation in Aβ levels may result from high neuronal activity16 and/or reduced glymphatic clearance during wakefulness.7 Because APP/PS1 mice exhibited a paradoxical reduction in NE oscillation 24 h after sleep deprivation, we focused on mapping the fraction of soluble Aβ at the same time point. The gene discussed is APP; the disease is amyloidosis.
