There exists a correlation between the circadian rhythm gene REV-ERBα and neuroinflammation in individuals with PD, as the absence of REV-ERBα intensifies the degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons induced by 6-OHDA, while also being linked to an increase in microglia proliferation within the substantia nigra (SN) (Kim et al., 2018). The gene discussed is NR1D1; the disease is Parkinson disease.
