At 12 hours post-injury, the animals with higher HMGB1 levels (≥ 36.41 ng/mL) compared to those with lower levels (<36.41 ng/mL) were associated with an 18-fold higher risk of AKI [OR:18.00 (2.33-387.0), p=0.02], and the animals with ≥ 36.41 ng/mL HMGB1 were associated with a 16-fold higher risk of MOF[OR:16.00(1.89-384.40), p=0.03] (Table 3). This evidence concerns the gene HMGB1 and acute kidney injury.
