SMAD3 and neoplasm: The pivotal role of SMAD3 in EMT is well‐established.[37] SMAD3 is phosphorylated (p‐SMAD3) in response to upstream signals, which in turn promotes the expression of downstream EMT‐related transcription factors.[38] Therefore, reducing intracellular SMAD3 expression or its active form p‐SMAD3 can potentially reverse EMT in tumor cells.
