Low-allele-burden (LAB) mice showed accelerated atherosclerosis with increased features of plaque instability, decreased levels of the macrophage phagocytic receptors c-Mer tyrosine kinase (MERTK) and triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2), and increased neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). Here, MERTK is linked to atherosclerosis.
