MMP1 and cancer: Garner [95] reported that mammalian blastocysts use aerobic glycolysis as do cancer cells to create a microenvironment in which the pH is low to increase angiogenesis, vascular permeability, tissue disaggregation through breakdown of the extracellular matrix associated with increases in expression of matrix metalloproteinases 1 and 2 (MMP1 and 2) from blastocysts and MMP9, transforming growth factors beta 1 and 2 (TGFB1, TGFB2), cathepsin B and hyaluronic acid.
