Previous reports showed that berberine (BBR), a natural phyto-compound, increased miR-24-3p expression in lymphoblastic leukaemia cells.33 Interestingly, BBR also reduced scar size in animal models of MI; however, its impact on miR-24-3p expression was not addressed by these studies.34–36 Here, BBR increased miR-24-3p levels both in TGFβ1-treated cardiac hMT (Figure 8A and B) and in secreted EVs (Figure 8C).
