One of the most widely studied chemokine signalling pathways in the BMM is CXCL12 (SDF‐1)/CXCR4, which under normal conditions contributes to the maintenance of quiescent haematopoietic stem cells but has been linked to the promotion of AML cell proliferation and survival under disease conditions.3, 5. The gene discussed is CXCL12; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
