There have been numerous studies that have related polymorphisms and gene variations in the IL-1β gene with differences in the transcription and expression of the IL-1β gene, which could correlate with the development of many autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus [31], rheumatoid arthritis [32] and multiple sclerosis [33]. The gene discussed is IL1B; the disease is rheumatoid arthritis.
