A multicenter prospective study was conducted in the US between 2009 and 2011 on 188 hospitalized patients with cirrhosis and showed that several urinary biomarkers including neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, interleukin-18 (IL-18), kidney injury molecule-1 [KIM-1], liver-type fatty acid-binding protein [L-FABP], and albuminuria, were independently associated with AKI progression and mortality [8]. This evidence concerns the gene HAVCR1 and Cirrhosis.
