Prolonged CCl4-induced liver injury increased the expression levels of genes associated with the unfolded protein response (UPR), which correlated with the duration of injury, with substantial, progressive upregulation of muscle, intestine, and stomach expression 1 (Mist1, bhlha15) in the mouse fibrosis model and other liver-damaged tissues. The gene discussed is BHLHA15; the disease is fibrosis.
