In preclinical models, IL-6 gene deletion, or IL-6 targeted therapy, effectively blocks the growth of gliomas [Weissenberger et al., 2004; Wang et al., 2018], and synergistically in combination with anti-VEGF therapy [Saidi et al., 2009; Bikfalvi et al., 2011], or with immune checkpoint blockade [Lamano et al., 2019; Yang et al., 2021].
