AD is a neurodegenerativecondition that worsens over time (Figure 1).It is characterized by the presence of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) inside neuronsand senile plaques composed of the amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptide, neuritic plaques, andAβ aggregates that form outside neuronal cells, as well as tau proteinhyperphosphorylation (2). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
