In contrast, BCR::ABL1- HSCs formed an isolated and distinct cluster clearly detached from the rest of the cells in the majority of patients, indicating that during the chronic phase of CML, active hematopoiesis is dominated by the BCR::ABL1+ LSCs while BCR::ABL1- HSCs reside in the bone marrow albeit in an inactive state with reduced contribution to hematopoiesis as previously suggested (Chen et al., 2023; Coulombel et al., 1983). The gene discussed is ABL1; the disease is chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL1 positive.
