In another series of 289 patients with CRC, high mRNA expression levels of α‐SMA showed a trend toward shorter overall survival and a combination of CAF and M2 macrophage mRNA markers: α‐SMA, fibroblast‐specific protein 1, and fibroblast activation protein together predicted the outcome.29 These suggest that for improved survival prediction, perhaps combinatorial analysis with other markers may prove helpful. The gene discussed is ACTA1; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
