FCGR3A and COVID-19: For this reason, and as a result of prior in vitro and in vivo data linking IgG afucosylation with increased affinity for FcγRIIIa and FcγRIIIb [26, 28, 29], increased proinflammatory cytokine secretion [17, 21], increased monocyte and neutrophil recruitment [17], and increased expression of FcγRIIIa on monocytes of patients that progressed to severe COVID-19 [17], spike IgG afucosylation is of particular interest for understanding COVID-19 immunopathology.
