Under the condition of ischemic stroke, peripheral myeloid cells including neutrophils are captured near the inflammatory site via rolling or adhesion on the brain vessel wall before transmigrating out of the bloodstream, as mediated by intracellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), macrophage-1 antigen (MAC-1), and selectins 47, 48. Here, ICAM1 is linked to ischemic stroke.
