After many years of exploring the fundamentals of glial HO-1 behavior in CNS senescence and disease, we may now be at the cusp of translating this experience into the development of definitive, disease-modifying approaches to the management of PD and related neurodegenerative disorders—an unmet clinical need that heavily impacts the health and wellbeing of our aging population. This evidence concerns the gene HMOX1 and Parkinson disease.
