To validate this in vitro finding in vivo, we gave C57BL/6 mice an intraperitoneal (i.p.)injection of a sublethal dose of attenuated Salmonella (1 × 105 CFU per mouse); at 4 hr post-infection (4 hpi), Slc30a1 expression was significantly higher in peritoneal macrophages compared to uninfected mice (Figure 1—figure supplement 2B).
