TNF and neoplasm: Between immunosuppressive cells, great attention is given to macrophages, which are distinguished in anti-tumoral (M1-MQ, that produce pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-α], interferon-γ [IFN-γ] and interleukin-12) and pro-tumoral (M2-MQ, involved in hemostasis, wound-healing and tissue remodeling phenomena) populations in the tumor microenvironment, where hypoxia leads to MQ polarization toward the M2 phenotype.
